Also, write a DETAILED reflection of your own performance or of another group. Consider how well they used non-verbal communication.

Click this Mr Bean - Exam Hall link for the you tube video (to help you with some ideas as to how you could improve your scene)

Year 10...FYI (sorry Alejandra!!)

Homework: Your task is to learn these lines by Thursday's lesson, as we will be working on character development and the presentation of the soliloquy.

Please bring ONE prop or small piece of costume that represents your 'Chris'.

Nobody Came - My Name is Chris

My name is Chris and I am three. My eyes are swollen, I cannot see. I must be stupid; I must be bad, what else could have made my daddy so mad. I wish I were better, I wish I weren’t ugly, then maybe my mummy would still want to hug me. I can’t do anything wrong, I can’t speak at all, or else I’m locked up all day long.

When I’m awake, I’m all alone. The house is dark, my folks aren’t home. When mummy does come home I’ll try and be nice, so maybe I’ll just get one whipping tonight. Sssshhhh, hold on…I heard a car, my daddy is back from Charlie’s bar. I hear him curse, my name is called, and I press myself against the wall to try and hid from his evil eyes. I’m so afraid I start to cry. He finds me weeping, calls me ugly words. He hits me hard and yells at me more, I finally get free and run to the door. He’s already locked it and I start to bawl; he takes me and throws me against the hard wall.

I fall to the floor with my bones nearly broken and my daddy continues with more bad words spoken. The hurt and the pain…again and again. Oh, please God have mercy! Oh, please let it end! And he finally stops and heads for the door, while I lay there motionless, sprawled on the floor.

My name is Chris and I am three. Tonight, my daddy murdered me.

Key questions and tips

1. Motivation/Objective – What do I want? (as the character)

2. Use Stanislavski’s Questions to help you with character development.

3. How do I consider my use of pace? When is it appropriate to pause? Why am I pausing at these particular moments?

4. What are my stage directions? (Action, body language, gestures, facial expression, tone of voice.) These should be noted in the margin, with detailed descriptions.

Year 7 Homework - Monday 29th August 2011

Homework - Lesson Reflection...

Think about what you did in the lesson today and use the following questions to help you write a two paragraph (minimum) reflection on the things that you learnt about yourself and your skills in drama.

  1. How did the 'yes, let's!' exercise help you to think about improvising effectively (well)?
  2. What was the quality of the improvisation that you did in pairs
  3. Why do you think your work was successful
  4. What feedback did you receive from the teacher or other student's to help you improve your work
  5. What problems and or/challenges did you face during this lesson
  6. How do you think you can personally overcome these challenges
  7. If you do not feel that there were any challenges, what can you do to challenge yourself further in Drama lessons?

Year 7 IMPROVISATION....

In order to develop a character...you can ask yourself the following questions:
  1. Who am I? (My name, occupation, status etc....)
  2. How old am I?
  3. Where am I?
  4. What am I doing?
  5. What do I want? (This is also called an 'objective')
We talked about 'accepting' other's ideas and how this can help when we improvise! "Yes, let's!"

We then did the following activity:

2 mins = Improvisation
1 mins = REFLECTION: WWW = What Went Well...
1 mins = REFLECTION: EBI = Even Better If...
4 mins = Rehearse the scene again, making the necessary changes.

What is IMPROVISATION??
improvise |ˈimprəˌvīz|verb [ trans. ]create and perform (music, drama, or verse) spontaneously or without preparation
